Decision Making Assignment: A Reflective Report

Question

Task:
This decision making assignment draws on learning activities and resources from weekly lectures. It is designed for you to record and reflect on the decision-making preferences, processes and tools that you use personally on a daily basis and compare and contrast this with one or two major personal or business decisions.

Answer

Executive Summary
The study would be taking note of my understanding of decision making possibilities with the account of various factors and my preferences while making a decision. Though I have theoretical knowledge, I would need to nurture my practical skills of decision-making that would be able to promote my personal and professional life.

Introduction
The executed study is a reflective account of my decision making preferences that has been affecting my decisions. I have come to learn that decision making aspects would be essential in both the professional field and my personal life. I understood that making a decision would be based on the prospects related to internal and external factors. This might be associated with an establishment or my branding that is yet to be accomplished.

Decision Making Preference
The course provided me with the primary knowledge and the related prospects that would be essential for making a decision. However, I have been able to embrace the understating and chose the best practice based on my understanding. Thus, it is critical to mention that Single Decision-Making model proved to be an essential factor that should be taken into account while making a decision. Apart from the mentioned, throughout my coursework, I have been associated with the necessity of communication that would be an essential factor for active decision-making (Kilpatrick et al., 2019). Hence, it could be concluded that through the coursework and extensive research, I understood that embracing the culture of better communication would be directly associated with right decisions.

Personality style and its Impact
I have completed three individual personality tests throughout the coursework. This would be containing the prospects of Intuition, Logic and Balance. The tests allowed me to evaluate my process of decision-making as per my personality. While the Intuition test provided me with a score of 4 out of 5, the logical and balanced test earned a score of 3.67 and 4.33. Hence, I understood that my decisions are more balanced than logical or intuitive. Through, this would mean that I tend to promote decisions that would be more intuitive than being logical, which culminated to becoming balanced decisions.

Decision Making Rationale
Throughout the study, I have been clear to me that making hasty decisions would not yield great results. Thus, I had to make note that I follow a specific model that would be inclusive of the process that would promote right decisions. Hence, I observed that the application of the Harrison Model (as depicted in figure 1) would be critical for my future decisions. The mentioned model would be inclusive of 6 stages that would be aiding right decisions (Goran, Leonilde & Vladimi?r Modra?k, 2018). This allows analysing the situation before accepting or making a significant decision. Additionally, the approach of the mentioned would be related to primary objectives that would be the final result of the decision as mentioned.

Evaluation and Implementation of Decision-Making Models
It has been well-established that the decision-making model that I am following to harness my skills would be the Harrison Model. Thus, reflection upon the process and the elements of the model would be essential for my growth. This would be further associated with the process of application through group discussions and the development of an innovative process of managing related knowledge. Thus, the elements of the Harrison model would be able to provide the knowledge of the changes in the micro and the macro environment that would have evident importance to the decisions that I make. However, the 6 elements of the Harrison model are as follows:

  • Objectives: Provide a brief understanding of the goals of the decisions that are yet to be made.
  • Searching for alternatives: The potential alternate route to a decision would be conclusive of the primary objectives and the aims of the decision.
  • Comparing and evaluating alternatives: The comparison and contrasting of multiple alternatives would be related to the evaluation of the pest decision of the practice that would be effective.
  • Act of choice: This corresponds to the proper choice that should be made.
  • Implementing decision: This would be related to the process of implementing the associated changes.
  • Follow-up and Control: The mentioned would be a control to the decisions that have been made for potential feedback.

Major Decision made
Through the coursework, I have been able to understand that decision-making would be a multi-layered process with definite importance. However, it would be essential to take note of the situational awareness, proper analysis of the situation, implementation of proper judgement, and acceptable decision-making models would be a part of the same. Through, this analysis, I could easily conclude that I believe group study with the associated would be a critical approach to ensure the success of the group (Tseng, Chiu & Liang, 2018). This would allow us to make decisions that would be for the best interest of the individuals associated with the group.

Reflection on feedback from three class members
It is essential to establish that the following feedback has been gained form three individuals or class members based on my primary decision. The feedback provides me with significant insight related to the initial decision.

  • Member 1: The individual mentioned that I need to be pre-emptive on my decisions. This corresponds to the prospect where I am unable to respond as per the desire as I need to commit to the research in a proactive manner that would aid my process of decision-making.
  • Member 2: The individual mentioned that I need to stand my ground with the decisions that I make. This would be associated with a useful model of communication that needs to be followed as I lack the confidence with the communication.
  • Member 3: The individual stated that I am precisely quick with the decisions I make. Thus, providing them with the look that I am more intuitive with the decisions.

Hence, I need to analyse and keep a note regarding the decisions that are justifying them on the process of explanation.

Evaluation and Significance of decisions made
While evaluating the feedback, I could understand that through the test showed that I am a balanced decision-maker, the associated did not think the same. This would be due to my type of communication or the process of making a decision. Hence, there are various segments of my personality and especially me decision-making process that would require improvement (Hao et al., 2017). This would be further associated with vivid discussions with the group that would be able to provide me with the skills and the knowledge that would be able to promote my decision-making skills.

Conclusion
It could be safely concluded that through I have been able to harness the primary knowledge regarding decision-making, I would need significant improvements. Hence, working with peers and class associated would be one of the best policies to polish my skills that would be critical for my future.
