Businesses can achieve cost efficiency, increased productivity and better customer engagement through digital supply chains. However, the implementation of digital supply chains in SMEs has lagged behind due to a lack of resources and expertise. This research aims to identify the challenges faced by SMEs in the Netherlands in digitalizing their supply chains, explore the factors that have prevented them from doing so, and suggest strategies to overcome them. Furthermore, the research will also explore the impact of digitalization on the performance of SMEs in the Netherlands. This research draws on at least three peer reviewed journal articles published with the past five years to identify a knowledge gap in the literature, and justify why it is a problem of interest to the academic and business communities.

Thus, this research proposal aims to make investigation on the digitalization of supply chains in SMEs in the Netherlands, focusing on the opportunities and challenges for these companies in terms of the cost savings, efficiency, visibility and customer satisfaction that can be achieved.

Additionally, predictive analytics can be used to identify potential disruptions in the supply chain, as well as to provide insights into demand forecasting (Mageto 2021). In addition to discussing the different digitalization strategies and technologies that can be used to improve supply chain operations, This is also important to discuss the impact of the digitalization of supply chains on SMEs in terms of cost savings, efficiency, visibility and customer satisfaction. According to Ageron, Bentahar and Gunasekaran (2020), the implementation of digitalization strategies in SMEs can result in cost savings, as well as improved efficiency, visibility and customer satisfaction. Theoretical/conceptual framework

Digitalization of supply chain in SME Companies in Netherlands

“ goal of this study is to determine how Dutch small and medium-sized businesses' (SMEs') business operations are impacted by the digitalization of the supply chain”. The (RBV) theory will be used as the theoretical/conceptual framework for this study in order to respond to this research issue. This study will analyze how digitalization of supply chain can be used to increase efficiency in the operations of SME companies and how it can help them to achieve market advantage through competition. (RBV) theory is a strategic management theory developed by the renowned management academics, Jay B. Barney and David J. Teece, which states that a company’s resources and capabilities are the driving force behind its success. The theory suggests that a company’s resources and capabilities should be developed and managed in a way that provides the company with a competitive advantage in the market. This theory has been widely accepted and applied in the management research. This theory is relevant to this research as it will help in understanding how digitalization of supply chain can be used to help give SMEs in the Netherlands a competitive edge. To collect information from the important SMEs stakeholders in the Netherlands, this study will employ the mixed method research approach in the form of semi-structured interviews.This data will be analyzed using the Resource-based View (RBV) theory. The results of this research will provide insights into how digitalization of supply chain can be used to increase efficiency in the operations of SMEs. “This research will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the (RBV) theory and its application to the digitalization of supply chain in SMEs”. This research will also provide insights into the potential benefits of digitalization of supply chain in SMEs. This research will be useful for the management of SMEs in Netherlands, as it will provide insights into how digitalization of supply chain can be used to improve their business operations.

Definitions of Key Terms

• Digitalization: The process of transforming an organization’s operations and data into a digital format that can be accessed, analyzed, and managed more easily (Rehman Khan and Yu 2019).

• Supply Chain: An organization that coordinates the production, distribution, and sale of a good or service through a network of manufacturers, suppliers, warehouses, transportation providers, and retailers (Rehman Khan and Yu 2019).

• SME Companies: “Businesses with fewer than 250 employees and a yearly revenue of less than 50 million euros are considered small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)” (Sopadang, Chonsawat and Ramingwong 2020).

• Netherlands: A country located in northwestern Europe, bordering the North Sea and Germany (Karlson et al. 2021).

Research Method and Design

In this research proposal, I plan to conduct a mixed method to examine the digitalization of supply chain in SME companies in the Netherlands. “Quantitative research is ideal for this research proposal as it allows for the collection and analysis of numerical data”, which can then be used to make informed decisions on the topic. Through the use of quantitative research methods, I will be able to gain a better understanding of how digitalization of supply chain affects SME companies in the Netherlands, as well as determine the best practices and strategies for successful implementation.

For my research design, I will be using a survey method. This involves the distribution of a questionnaire to a sample of participants in order to collect data on the digitalization of supply chain in SME companies in the Netherlands. The survey will include a variety of questions related to the topic, such as the level of digitalization that companies have achieved, the challenges they have faced when implementing digitalization, and their overall satisfaction with the results. The survey will be distributed online in order to ensure a wide reach and to allow for easy access to the participants. This research proposal's overall goal is to investigate the digitalization of the supply chain in SME businesses in the Netherlands through a quantitative research design that makes use of interviews, document analysis, and survey research methods. I will be able to better comprehend the subject and offer insights into best practices and strategies for effective implementation through the use of descriptive statistical tools and theme analysis.

Trustworthiness

• Dependability:The dependability, often referred to as consistency, of the information gathered and examined in a research study is its accuracy and dependability.(Hayashi, Abib and Hoppen 2019). To establish dependability, I will use member checking of the data interpretation, transcript review, and pilot tests to ensure accuracy and reliability of the results.

• Credibility:“Credibility, also known as internal validity, is the trustworthiness and believability of the results and findings (Breves, Liebers, Abt and Kunze 2019)”. To establish credibility, I will use prolonged engagement, persistent observation, and triangulation of data, investigator or method.

• Transferability: Transferability, also known as external validity, is the ability to apply the research results to other contexts (Paparini et al. 2020). To ensure transferability, I will take steps such as providing thick description, creating an audit trail, and providing an account of the researcher as part of the study. Additionally, I will discuss the implications of the research results to the reader and other contexts in order to ensure transferability.

• Confirmability: Confirmability, also known as neutrality, is the objectivity of the research results (Sumrin and Gupta 2021). To ensure confirmability, I will create an audit trail, use a research journal, and maintain reflexivity throughout the research process. Additionally, I will take steps to ensure that the researcher does not introduce bias or influence the results in any way.

• Data Saturation: To ensure data saturation, I will take steps such as continuing data collection until no new information is being gathered, and checking for patterns in the data that can be used to draw conclusions. Additionally, I will review the data multiple times to ensure accuracy and completeness.

“To support my claims and decisions, I will use multiple scholarly peer-reviewed or seminal sources”. These sources include Neuman (2000), Glesne (2016), and other sources. These sources will provide evidence for the trustworthiness of the study and for the methods used to ensure trustworthiness.

Ethical Considerations

Assumptions, Limitations, and Delimitations

“This report proposes a study on the digitalization of the supply chain in SME companies in the Netherlands. The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact of digitalization on the supply chain of SMEs and the overall effectiveness of the process”. The study will involve a review of the literature, interviews with experts, and a survey of SMEs.

Assumptions

Assumptions are facts that are assumed to be true but cannot be verified. For this study, it is assumed that the SMEs in the Netherlands have access to the necessary resources and technology to implement digitalization of the supply chain. Furthermore, it is assumed that the respondents of the survey have the necessary knowledge and experience to provide valid responses.
