Situated in Churchill Avenue, Hobart TAS 7005, Australia, the University of Tasmania is a public research university. The University of Tasmania is the fourth oldest in the country. The University inaugurated its residential college named Christ College in 1846, making it one of the oldest tertiary institutes of the country. The University of Tasmania offers several courses to choose from, which directly links to 20 cooperative research centres and specialist research institutes.
The University offers tertiary education at the Australian Maritime College, the national centre for maritime education, training, and research. The staff includes some of the most distinguished personalities of our time, including Mathematician and Physicists Alexander McAulay and his son Alexander Leicester McAulay, Polymath and Philosopher Edmund Morris Miller, historian William Jethro Brown and Classicist R.L Dunbabin. There are several campuses the University has on offer, including the Precinct ofMedical Sciences and the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music in the South, The Australian Maritime College and the Newnham in the North, Rural Clinical School and Cradle Coast in the north-west side and two university campuses located in Rozelle and Darlinghurst in Sydney. The University also features seven libraries for its students, including the Art Library in the centre for the Arts, the Law Library and the Morris Miller Library in Sandy Bay, and the Music library at the Conservatorium of Music. In addition, the University has five faculties to choose from, including the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics,the College of Health and Medicine, the College of Arts, Law, and Education, the University College and theCollege of Sciences and Engineering. The University of Tasmania also plays the role of the International Antarctic Institute’s secretariat founded in 2006 in association with 19 institutes from 12 countries.
