Relationship Between Resources And Development Assignment

Question

Task: Conduct research on the interaction and relationship between resources and development and write a detailed report on resources and development assignment.

Answer

Introduction
On this resources and development assignment, we explore the development is directly associated with resource availability. This makes it essential to have an adequate number of resources at a location to kick-start development. The type of resources available will also determine the form of development being experienced (Barbier, 2010). With resources and development forging a close relationship, resources will dictate the industries developing in a region. Proper management of the resources will generally result in the gradual development of other sectors, thus gradually kick-starting fully-fledged development even in the most inhospitable planet regions. Resource availability also determines the industries that develop in an area since each is interdependent on the other. To understand the close relationships between resource availability and industry development, we shall analyze the following examples provided within this resources and development assignment.

The Beef Industry Influence to Fast Food Industry.
We all need food to survive, and while many people enjoy their burger, few will consider the cycle the burger had to enter before becoming a finished product. In most situations, the burger patties are made from beef which is reared on ranches. Visiting the ranches will quickly reveal an arid location with very few resources a person can utilize to survive. This makes the first resource linked to beef production the dry grasslands which are inhospitable to humans but ideal for cattle ranching. The cattle are reared on these farms and ranches that offer few resources to a human being before being sent to be processed into meat and eventually the meat used in beef burgers. The burgers' revenue is then used to fund the ranches and professionals living on the farms and all other stakeholders. The ranching industry is heavily dependent on the fast-food industry which is responsible for selling the finished products to the consumer. Both resource and industry are interdependent and must work alongside each other to ensure every aspect linked to the industry has been addressed. While the fast-food industry may seem to sell the finished product at a higher profit, the profits must be transferred to the rancher as well. Without the cattle, it would not be possible for the fast-food industry to continue functioning. The aspects noted above within the resources and development assignment are closely linked to each other and must work alongside each other.

The Cocoa Bean and Chocolate Industry.
It is evident in the context of this resources and development assignment that each person will consume at least 10 grams of chocolate per week, resulting in a vast interdependence of resource and industry processing in the Cocoa industry. With the demand for cocoa beans rising globally, ensuring the crops remain productive has become critical. The Cocoa industry is observed as a perfect example of interdependence between the source of raw materials and the industry due to the damage that severely hit the industry some years ago. With Cocoa-pods being destroyed by an untreatable mould, it becomes the concern of all stakeholders to intervene and prevent the resource's loss. This led to the significant coca consumer companies like Cadburys, Hershey’s and many others involvement by investing funds into the research and development on cocoa mutations that did not affect the mould. This would help prevent the industry's loss and demonstrate how the prominent chocolate and cocoa consumers were heavily dependent on the resource and had to save the raw material source.

Cocoa is produced on farms and requires a considerable amount of processing before you consume the final product. This makes it essential for the industry to ensure the cocoa crop remains healthy to produce the future seed crop, which the chocolate industries will utilize. With this in mind, the industries placed their differences apart and created the World Cocoa Foundation funded by the leading industry players. It was developed with the sole objective of ensuring cocoa production sustainability is maintained. This has had a significant impact on sustainable cocoa production due to the industries providing vital funding to assist in the research and development of new cocoa strains and breeds that are mould resistant.

This, in turn, has resulted in the development of a new mould-resistant cocoa species which is not harmed by the humid conditions the plants require to grow under. In turn, it has resulted in saving millions of jobs and resulted in generating Billions of dollars in profits each year for all industry players. The chocolate industry is heavily dependent on cocoa as its raw material. This has made it critical for the industry to work alongside the producer to ensure the raw materials' sustainability, thus helping save the entire industry. Studies performed on this resources and development assignment depicts that failing to do this would have resulted in the whole chocolate industry risking experiencing a significant slump in production due to the cocoa mould destroying the crop. The mould would also gradually spread across the global cocoa-producing nations and result in seriously affecting global production.

Failing to place differences aside and save the resource would also automatically result in the industry facing significant production shortages, resulting in economic wars that would see companies than gradually approach countries experiencing major conflict to secure the few cocoa deposits. Working together has allowed the industry players to save the resource, which has resulted in saving the entire industry that was facing a grim future due to the natural mould that damages cocoa beans. Today cocoa bean production has grown consistently. The World Cocoa Foundation continues functioning with research to increase production to meet world cocoa consumer demand, which continually grows each year.

What is the relationship between Chicken, Potato and the Fast Food Industry mentioned in the resources and development assignment?
Today, most people have heard of Burger King, McDonald's or KFC, which are the three largest fast-food companies globally. These fast-food companies also have a single shared resource demand which is the specific potato requirement to produce their French-fries. This information presented in the resources and development assignment has resulted in Russet Potato production, which has grown to become the most commonly used potato species in the fast-food industry due to its low starch and long body shape. This is very important for the fast-food sector since the consumer is seeking long French fries which have grown to become an essential component of every meal at the fast-food restaurants. With this in mind, the industries have invested in developing a specific potato strain that consists of a particular composition and nutrients that deliver specific tastes to each fast foods chain for French fries preparation.

While the fast-food industry has grown dependent on the potatoes, the farmers have also grown heavily reliant on the fast-food industry to process and sell the potatoes into different consumer products demanded by the consumer. Both industries explored in the segments of this resources and development assignment have grown heavily dependent on each other, resulting in the forging of a close relationship and interdependence between the potato farmer and fast-food chains across the globe.

Another industry mentioned in the context of this resources and development assignment, which involves more than two groups is the poultry production industry growing in demand each year. This industry helps produce eggs and poultry meat to feed billions of people each day, resulting in a massive egg and chicken production. To meet the consumer demand, chicken farming has turned from open freehold farming to zero-grazing units which see farms rearing millions of chickens in a small area. But the chicken farmer can’t manage this on their own and is heavily dependent on grain farmers who are contracted to grow the food raw materials required by the chicken to produce the eggs and grow fast to reach the meat processing age. This demonstrates the close relationship between the industry and resources which each play a huge role in development. As mentioned in this resources and development assignment, it’s also essential that every industries development acknowledge all stakeholders' participation, allowing them to contribute to the industry and ensure it is consistently developing and growing.

Most food chain industries are growing heavily dependent on their resources, and each must accept their need for raw materials, which will assist them in retaining the industries sustainability. Every aspect must be closely observed and understood, allowing the industry to experience consistent growth and development.

Conclusion
Inter-relationships between industry and raw materials and resources have grown more common in recent years, and this is due to increasing demand for the products. With the global population rising, each consumer’s markets are also rising; this pushes industries to need more raw materials, thus placing additional pressure on the resources (Dornfeld & Linke, 2012). While only the fast-food industries related to the resources have been discussed on the above examples within this resources and development assignment, it’s important to remember that every industry is closely linked to their natural resources and heavily dependent on them to maintain sustainability. Therefore, every enterprise must practice positive acts and approaches related to the sustainable management of their resources, thus ensuring the long-term availability and proper usage of the resource towards the industries development and growth.
