Digital Transformation Assignment: Impact of Digitalisation on Entrepreneurship’s Opportunity in Indian Telecom Industry

Question

Task: Prepare a well-researched digital transformation assignment presenting a research report on the topic “How digital transformation affects entrepreneurial activities in Indian Telecom Industry”.

Answer

Introduction
1.1 Research background of digital transformation assignment

In this era of digitalisation and constant technological evolution, the telecom sector has been looking for different aspects to adopt so that they can deliver superior services to the consumers in consideration to their emerging needs. Digital transformation across all forms of sectors has been bringing in changes and in this context the Indian telecom sector is also not an exception.

The Indian telecom sector has been one of the fastest growing sectors across the globe with a growth rate of 45%(Deo, 2017). It is obvious that entrepreneurial activities within this sector is also on the higher side. However, digitalisation has been impacting these entrepreneurialopportunitiesstrongly. While it has been helping them to open up new markets, acquire more customer and develop better products, it has been also posing challenges such as generating a disruptive competition, lack of adequate knowledge to absorb the fundamental mechanism of digitalisation, lack of adequate capital resources to support the digital infrastructure and so on (Suryagayathri and Krishnan,2018).

This study will thus focus on how the Indian telecom sector and its relevant digitalisation has been impacting the entrepreneurial activities as well as opportunities.

1.2Research problem
The study will focus on solving the issue related to the impact of digitalisation on the entrepreneurialopportunities within the Indian telecom sector. The different challenges that are posed to the entrepreneurial ventures are a cause of serious concern. The existing businesses can remain confined to the existing market however the entrepreneurial ventures helps in generating national wealth since they endeavours to bring in new and innovative productsand thus ensures generation of new wealth(Bhattacharjee and Chakrabarti, 2017). However, eentrepreneurship receives opportunity recognition at slightly different way in telecom industry and such an issue needs to be solved because lack of proper recognition of such ventures can impact the overall economic growth of the country and can even restrict the path of innovation which is vital to the innovation-driven economy of the country (Rajini and Sangamaheswary,2016).

1.31Aim
The chief aim of the study is to understand the impact of digitalisation on the opportunity recognition of the entrepreneurs within the telecom industry.

How does digitalisation effect the entrepreneurship’s opportunity ?

Is opportunity recognition in telecom slightly different from other sectors?

How doesopportunityrecognition different for entrepreneurships in the telecom start-up’s in comparison to another high-tech start-up’s?

To what extent digitisations effect the opportunity recognition in the telecom industry ?

What is the relationship between  entrepreneurship opportunity and customer interaction in the Telecom Industry?

1.5Gap in literature
The research study has focussed on the issue of how far opportunity recognition in the telecom industry is different for the entrepreneurs and in order to solve this issue it has well focussed on the way entrepreneur ventures and their related opportunity gets a foothold in this sector, however the study has not been able to focus on how lack of proper recognition of the opportunities of these entrepreneurs can be devastating in killing the innovative spirit especially of this millennial generation. Moreover, the study have even been unable to focus on how the entrepreneurs often fail since they cannot well adapt to the various unpredictable events as well as conditions and thus even if the opportunity is lying ahead, they can hardly visualise it.

2.Research Design
2.1Research type

The research has aimed to focus on the opportunity recognition of the entrepreneurs within the telecom industry and thus in order to achieve this the study has chosen the exploratory research approach in order to explore as well as determine how digital transformation has been impacting the entrepreneurship especially in the telecom sector and thus the exploratory approach will help in giving a broader and a deeper insight(Snyder, 2019).

2.2 Research Approach
The research approach will be considering the qualitative research approach as there has been as such no substantial research that has been conducted on this topic and thus it will help in getting the various behaviours as well as opinions of entrepreneurs along with their view on motivation and entrepreneurship.

2.3 Types of data
There are typically two types of data that a study can collect and these are namely primary as well as secondary data(Basiasand Pollalis,2018). The primary data can be further be categorised under qualitative and quantitative data. The quantitative data is often being collected in the form of survey while the qualitative data is collected in the form of interview. The study has already mentioned the business research questions and since the topic and the related research problem is complex, primary data will be used for the BRQ-1 and hence interviews will be conducted which will help in investigating the entrepreneurship opportunities and for BRQ2, the secondary data which can help in getting the external data such as case studies which can be related to customer satisfaction and the social ties will be considered.

2.3 Data collection method
The study has opted for both primary and secondary data collection method.Since collection of the primary data will be in the form of an interviewthere can be number of opportunities for the research to get an overview of the interviewees in depth opinions and views n the related topic.

Interview can be considered as one of the best form of collecting qualitative data and it helps in the maintenance of the record of the collected responses an can even help in reinforcing and challenging such responses as well (Wanget al., 2019). Due to the pandemic outbreak of the COVID19, however there are few restrictions in collecting data and thus the interview has been conducted on an online survey platform called as google form and a list of open-ended questions were handed over to the interviewees through that online platform.

Moreover , the secondary data will even help in collecting relevant data from the authentic journal and articles and case studies(Tuffour, 2017).Thus in order to collect this the study will be undertaking 4 authentic journal articles that gives an in-depth knowledge on the concerned topic.

2.4 Sampling Plan
2.4.1Sampling Frame

The study will be choosing the individuals or the participants who have a profound knowledge in the telecom field and will even collect the secondary data from the chosen articles.

2.4.2 Sampling unit
In order to conduct the study, 5 to 7 participants will be chosen who can answer to the relevant interview questions with their in depth knowledge on the telecom industry as well as how digitalisation has been impacting the entrepreneur opportunities within the sector. Moreover, 4 chosen articles will be considered in order to collect the secondary data.

2.4.3 Sampling Methods
In consideration to the convenience, the study will deploy the non-probabilitysampling technique since it is easier to get into contact with this specific industry and even get in touch with some experienced people who can provide with unbiased opinions.Considering convenience non-probability sampling due to its easier to get in contact with specific industry experienced sample people to get un-biased opinions (Bøeet al., 2017).

2.4.4Sampling Techniques
In this study, the convenience sampling technique will be used since it is not only easy to carry out with hardly any rules that can govern the way sample can be collected, but also the relevant time and cost needed to carry out this sample are smaller when compared to the probability sampling methods.

2.5 Data Analysis plan
In order to analyse the collected data it is necessary to choose proper data analysis plan and thus in this study the data will be analysed with the helpof thematic analysis. This forms one of the most common forms of making an analysis of the qualitative data. It helps in identifying, emphasising as well as analysing along with interpreting the patterns of meaning underlying within the qualitative data. The thematic analysis will thus be analysing the information being collected that will help in answering the proposed research questions. This method helps in emphasizing rich description as well as organisation of the data set as well theoretically informing the interpretation of meaning. Since the study seeks out to carry out an interview and even will collect data from the secondary sources, this analysis plan will help in analysing the collected data without any biasedness or similar pattern of answers that can negatively impact a research study.
