Located in the Guildford area of England, The University of Surrey is a well-known public research university established back in 1891 after the establishment of the Battersea Polytechnic Institute. The institute was given University status in 1966 after getting the royal charter. After its establishment, institute focused mostly on science and technology from 1920 and in 1956, the institute was designated "College of Advanced Technology". The following year, the institute was relocated to Guilford. 1963 saw the proposal of converting the college into a full-fledged university by the Robbins Report.
2016 marked the 125th anniversary of the University of Surrey. The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016 also named the University of Surrey the "University of the year". The University features two primary campuses located in Manor Park and Stag Hill. The Manor Park campus was established to allow more space for the students, which was constrained in the Stage hill campus. The Manor Park campus of the University houses the accommodations for the students, the School of Veterinary Medicine and the Surrey Sports Park. The University also includes a Research Park, which was established back in 1985 which houses over 100 firms that employ over 2500 people. The University has 22 schools and departments within its three faculties, including the arts and social sciences faculty, the health and medical sciences faculty, and the engineering and physical sciences faculty. The University has also established two supplementary departments (technology-enhanced learning and higher education) to aid the three primary faculties. The Surrey International Institute-DUFE (SII-DUFE) was established in 2006 in China to collaborate with the Dongbei University of Finance and Economics.
